MetaShare Help - Admin Manual

How to create a site content type

Follow these steps to create a new site content type to be used within MetaShare:

    1. Go to MetaShare's start page.
    2. Click on the "Settings" function in the top bar:
    3. Open one of the MetaShare configurations in MetaShare settings' left navigation menu.
    4. Beneath the selected configuration, select the sub-menu "Document content types".
    5. On the right hand side, click on the button "Create content type".
    6. In the new window that opens up fill in the following fields:
      1. Give the content type a meaningful "Name".
      2. If the content type applies to documents:
        1. In the drop-down "Select parent content type from", select "Document Content Types".
        2. In the drop-down "Parent Content Type", select "Document".
      3. If the content type applies to rich media (e.g. if you want to have a workspace for your digital images, where you want columns such as "Date Picture Taken"):
        1. In the drop-down "Select parent content type from", select "Digital Asset Content Types".
        2. In the drop-down "Parent Content Type", select any of these "Audio", "Image", "Rich Media Asset" or "Video Rendition".
      4. In the drop-down "Put this site content type into", select "MetaShare" , or any other meaningful group that you use to group your site content types.

The name of the group that you select does not have any effect on the behavior of the content type, it just makes it easier to find them if they are grouped into meaningful names. If you manage a larger organisation with several legal entities, you can easily separate the content types by adding them into different groups. If you do not select a group, SharePoint will by default put the site column into a group called "Custom content types".
      5. Click the "OK" button.
